Pokanoka's Run & Walk

The Trail Run & Walk is a fundraising event for Safe Passage, DeKalb County’ Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Agency. The mission of Safe Passage is to reduce or prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.

8-Mile Trail Run

The approximately 8 mile Trail Run basically follows the Snowmobile Trail. The starting point for the Trail Run will be the Three Fires Shelter Area. Runners will run S/E for approximately 1/2 mile before joining the Snowmobile Trail as it loops around Shabbona Lake. After crossing the 1/2 mile Earthen Dam runners will run N/W back toward the Three Fires Shelter House finish Line.

The 8 mile Trail Race/Walk will be timed by  RACE TIME, Inc. from Winfield, Illinois.  Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following categories:

18 & Under
50 & over

1.8 Mile Walk

The Walk will be a circle loop thru approximately 1.8 miles of historic woods in Shabbona Lake State Park.

Walkers will walk NW bound from the Three Fires Shelter along wooded trails until they reach Somonauk Point. From Somonauk Point, Walkers will walk SE bound along the shoreline of Shabbona Lake until they return back to the Three Fires Shelter.

Trail Walkers will leisurely walk the 1.8 miles at their own pace.

Shabbona Lake State Park is located in Southern DeKalb County approximately 25 miles Southwest of DeKalb, Illinois. The Park attracts approximately 475,000 visitors a year.

Sign up Pre Registration fees: $30 for Runners and $15 for Walkers, when you sign up 7 days in advance (Wednesday, June 27) of the event.

To receive a T Shirt, Runners /Walkers must Pre-register by Wednesday, June 27th!!!!  

No Refunds, No Rain Date, Rain or Shine, the event is a go.

Each Runner or Walker will have to sign an IDNR release form. These forms will be available on race day or you can download a copy by clicking here.
